Why Choose Lead Free Wine Glasses?

by Erin Singh Leave a Comment

If you want to improve your pleasure of wine, then it all comes down to the type of glass you choose to drink from.

Riedel O Cabernet Glasses

Riedel O Cabernet Glasses

Professional wine tasters believe that selecting those glasses which have been crafted for particular types of wine may assist in bringing out the aromas and flavors of the wine.

I personally feel that to further the quality of the wine it would be wise to choose wine glasses and wine decanters which are lead free.

It also stems down to whether you prefer to drink wine from tumblers or not.

Riedel O Cabernet Glasses

Riedel manufacture and market stemless wine glasses.  Their Riedel O Cabernet Glasses are lead free tumblers.  The trend for these wine glasses is on the increase.

After a few drinks it would be less likely to knock them over as they are a heavier glass, more stable and better to focus on then squinting to find a stem.  Jokes aside, how many people do hold their wine glass by the stem?

Lead free Riedel O Cabernet Glasses are sold on Amazon.

Ravenscroft Invisibles

Ravenscroft lead free crystal wine glasses are readily distinguishable from other similar wine glasses of the type.  It is clear-cut to see why their pure clean crystal has been dubbed (named) “Invisible”.

Ravenscroft Lead Free Wine Glass “Invisibles” come in 12 ounce, 14 ounce and 25 ounce.  They are light weight and once filled with wine they are no longer transparent.   Now that’s a good thing!

Each wine glass is handmade and has a wide mouth.  You can purchase Ravenscroft “Invisibles” from Amazon.

Ravenscroft Lead Free Wine Decanters

It is a known fact that storing wine for long periods in lead glass crystal decanters can taint (contaminate) the wine; as the lead from the decanter has been said to leach into any liquid that has been stored in it.

Ravenscroft Crystal Beveled Blade Decanter is lead free and free of impurities as all of Ravenscrofts’ decanter collection.  Handmade by European craftsmen, this Ravenscroft decanter has been laboriously polished to perfection.

You can buy the Ravenscroft Crystal Beveled Blade Decanter from Amazon.

All Natural Jute Tote Bags made for Wine Bottles by “CarryGreen” are advertised on Amazon.

WineGlobe is a U.S. online store and has a selection of  Biodynamic  and Organic Wines.  To enquire about WineGlobe’s International Shipping Rates, feel free to visit their website.

Did You Know?

Unleaded crystal glass is more time consuming and difficult to manufacture as it has not been softened by lead.

It is not dipped in acid baths to quickly polish the cut as leaded glass is.  The lead free wine glasses must go back on a wheel to be polished by hand which is a strenuous effort on the craftsman’s behalf.

If you would like to know more about the dangers of lead, please visit the EPA website and Wikipedia.
