Cleopatra (the most beautiful woman of her time) was said to have bathed in essential oils, honey and milk whilst exfoliating with fine white sand. Her daily natural beauty regime saw to her youthful looks and ageless beauty. Of course, she didn’t snack on processed foods or bathe with petrochemicals and other toxic chemicals for that matter. They didn’t make themselves known until the mid 19th Century onwards. The only toxin Cleopatra had to deal with was that from an asp (snake).
Today “Cleopatra’s Choice”, an online beauty store, has a range of natural products including “Australian Scent” from Australia of course. I’m laughing because as an Aussie I’d taken the longer route by ordering “Australian Scent” Cleansing Stream through “Cleopatra’s Choice”. Included in my order were “Cleopatra’s Choice” African Black Soap, Pure Argon Oil and Shea Butter Lip Balm.
African Black Soap – Unscented
After using this soap my skin felt so smooth and moisturised. It’s a multi- purpose all natural unscented body soap which I’d happily use daily.
Hand-crafted in Western Africa, this all natural black soap is made from a blend of cocoa pod powder, plantain skin (member of the banana family), tropical honey and virgin coconut oil. The village women in Western Africa make the soap for themselves and for monetary gain to support their families.
African Black Soap is free of any ‘nasties’ which a majority of other soaps contain. It’s rich in natural vitamins of A, E and Iron to nourish the skin. Containing high amounts of natural glycerine and tropical honey, it moisturises the skin leaving it soft and supple. For many centuries the indigenous people of Africa have been using this wonder soap for a variety of skin conditions including oily/dry skin and blemishes. The women of Africa use black soap during and after pregnancy to prevent stretch marks. African men use it when shaving and it can be used to wash all hair types. African Black Soap is so pure it is very kind to babies’ delicate skin.
“Australian Scent” Cleansing Stream
This two-in-one cleansing/toning lotion called ‘Cleansing Stream’ contains evening primrose oil, ginger, lemon, organic jojoba oil and organic tea extracts. I love the smell of lemons and I could detect the mild scent of lemon as I was cleansing my face. It left my face feeling refreshed and nourished.
Our skin (mainly on the face and scalp) produces an oily, waxy matter called sebum. Sebum helps to protect your skin by moisturising and repelling water. Due to diet and weather conditions our skin may become too oily or too dry. The organic jojoba oil in “Australian Scent” Cleansing Stream will balance this issue and leave your skin well conditioned. The antioxidants in ‘Cleansing Stream’ will help fight the aging process and help to prevent disease.
Pure Argan Oil for Hair & Skin
Argan oil is sourced from the kernels of the Argan tree which is limited to certain areas of Morocco. It is prized for its medicinal and nutritional properties.
A few centuries ago, the indigenous people of Morocco would collect the undigested Argan pits (kernels) from goat waste (poo). The pits were, hopefully washed, then grounded and pressed to make the oil. Today of course, the Argan kernels are harvested straight from the tree.
After cleansing my face with “Australian Scent” Cleansing Stream, I applied a small amount of Pure Argan Oil, via spray, onto my hands then patted the oil gently over my face and neck. I did this in the evening prior to retiring for the night then when I woke in the morning my face felt so hydrated, moisturised and supple.
A few days after receiving these products in the mail, my mother was bitten by an insect or spider. It caused an itchy rash on her skin where she was bitten and the area around that bite became sore and inflamed. The inflammation quickly spread. After applying a few lotions which did not work, I asked my mother to apply the Argan Oil. Within 5 minutes of her applying the oil on her skin, the itchiness subsided. Every few hours for 2 days the Argan Oil was applied to the area. The redness and itch all but disappeared. On the third day there was no tell-tale sign that there had been a problem at all.
As we age our skin loses it elasticity due to diet, weather conditions and its inability to produce sebum. Argan oil is rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids. This is good news for our skin and hair as Argan oil is a great healer. It helps to heal scars, reduces wrinkles, rejuvenates the skin, helps to repair split ends of hair and has inflammatory properties.
Shea Butter Lip Balm
Shea Butter is removed from the nut of the African Shea Tree. It has been used for centuries in Africa for its healing and moisturising properties; naturally rich in Vitamins A, E and F, Shea Butter helps to protect and condition the body, scalp as well as the hair from the sun and wind. It also helps to restore the skins elasticity which is excellent for reducing scars and stretch marks.
“Cleopatra’s Choice” Shea Butter Lip Balm absorbed well into my lips and they felt really moisturised. Shea Butter is known for its antiseptic properties as well, so it’s wonderful for treating minor burns and wounds of the skin.
Lick your lips as much as you want because this wonderful lip balm is edible.
