An accessory is an item which when added to something else should make it more useful and change its appearance to make it look more appealing (inviting). Generally we buy bathroom accessories to make our lives more bearable (livable).
It’s the need for these ‘things’ that have a majority of manufacturing companies quickly producing bathroom accessories that are far from being useful. Cheaply made from all sorts of synthetic material, these types of accessories are not practical and are hazardous to our health. They are not meant to endure (last) for any lengthy period either. My passion to source for eco friendly products has lead me to bathroom accessories made from bamboo, cork, hemp and vetiver (a plant grass).
All bathroom accessories listed here are sold on Amazon.
Vetiver Bath Mats
The root of the vetiver grass plant is woven to make a hard-wearing material which is waterproof, therefore stopping the growth of mildew.
A great alternative to cloth mats, a bath mat made out of vetiver grass plant root permeates (releases) a fragrance every time it comes in contact with water as it contains natural oils.
Bamboo Bath Mat
The bamboo plant is part of the ‘grass family’. Fast growing and very resistant to pests, this renewable plant does not have any need to be sprayed with pesticides and herbicides.
Having anti-bacterial properties too, it’s no wonder that there are so many uses for bamboo (including bath mats) which makes it such a versatile, eco friendly plant (grass). Bamboo material is naturally water resistant, is mildew resistant and therefore tolerates being in a bathroom where moisture is prevalent (widespread).
Cork Bath Mat
The production of cork comes from the bark of the Cork Oak Tree. Not one part of the cork bark is wasted. After the production of cork wine stoppers, the left over cork is then processed into making cork flooring and cork mats etc.
Cork is anti-fungal and resists mold, mildew as well as bacteria growth. Bath mats made of cork are naturally not slip; they do not hold water and dries faster than cloth bath mats. What a corker!
Hemp Shower Curtains
It’s a robust (tough) plant able of tolerating difficult climatic conditions. A very useful and beneficial plant, hemp is used in the production of paper, textiles and the hemp seed is used for its oil as well as the seeds being used in food preparations.
As hemp is rot resistant, it is feasible (practicable) to use natural hemp shower curtains in your bathroom as they are strong, lightweight and fast drying. If aired well and washed with eco friendly mild detergents, they will last for many years.
Flax Shower Curtains
Also known as linen, the fibers of the flax plant are taken from the stalk. Pure linen is allergy-free, anti-static, antibacterial and keeps its shape well even when washed; a good reason why it is so fitting to be used as a shower curtain. As hemp, if it is cared for you will get years of use from it.
