Looking for the ‘right’ bed for your baby can be daunting. There are so many cots/cribs on the market but most of them do not ‘measure up’ where safety is concerned. The companies who make these cots/cribs are actually targeting you; the mother-to-be. Women’s choices depend on style and colour to match the decor in the nursery; never dreaming that the gorgeous baby bed with all the ‘bells and whistles’, which they just bought their new bundle of joy, may cause their baby harm.
The sad truth is that most cots/cribs are made from toxic materials; including the mattress, bed linen and other accessories that go with them. Babies beds are badly designed which could lead to seeing the slats width being too far apart or a gap between the mattress and the sides of the cot/crib. I’m not going to “pussy foot around”! These are potential death traps! Your baby can get their legs, arms or head caught between the slats or get themselves wedged between the mattress and the sides of the cot/crib.
Most baby beds these days are made from wood. You need to find out what type of wood it is made from to what type of paint or varnish is used to finish them. As your baby gets older, they will love to sink their gums/teeth into everything. So it is very important to find out if the paint is non-toxic and if the wood has been naturally oiled.
In my research to find a safe cot/crib for your baby, I came across a wooden 4-in-1 Convertible Crib by Da Vinci sold on Amazon.com. It meets Federal Safety Regulations and has a non-toxic finish.
I was on a mission and wanted to find an allergy-free, non-toxic mattress to go with the crib and selling on Amazon is a Certified Luxury Organic II Crib Mattress by Michael Anthony Furniture.
The material used in this mattress is all natural, doesn’t release toxic off-gassing and doesn’t have any damaging chemicals, toxins or dyes.
